Greenwood/Asher & Associates, LLC partnered with Fayette County Public Schools on its search for its next superintendent. Dr. Demetrus Liggins currently serves as superintendent of schools in Greenville Independent School District, in Greenville, Texas, a city approximately 50 miles from Dallas. Dr. Liggins is known as an innovative educator and a man of integrity who leads with a laser focus on student achievement. He is also a gifted relationship builder who genuinely cares about students, staff, and the community where he lives and works. Liggins’ steadfast goal is to provide all students, regardless of their ability, race, language, or family income, with opportunities and experiences to become successful, productive students and citizens. Dr. Liggins has demonstrated his commitment to education throughout his career by serving in the positions of bilingual/Spanish classroom teacher, assistant principal, elementary, middle, and high school principal, and as an area superintendent of schools. He has also worked in rural, suburban, and large urban communities and schools. Throughout his career he has developed a reputation for having high expectations for success, resulting in stellar results and being an educational leader who is passionate about reaching our youth and providing an environment for students to thrive in school and in life. He is known for investing in his colleagues and his profession, and he is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and a mentor to dozens of educators. In 2020, Dr. Liggins was named a national "Superintendent to Watch" by the National School Public Relations Association for his fast-paced leadership and strong communication skills. He was also spotlighted as an Inspiring Leader by the Texas Association of School Administrators and received the Phi Delta Kappa Distinguished Leadership Award for Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2019. Other professional accolades include being selected as one of five finalists statewide for the prestigious H-E-B Outstanding School Board award. Dr. Liggins was also chosen to complete the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent Certification Program in 2020, one of only a handful of superintendents throughout the nation. Dr. Liggins received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from California State University, Fresno, and a Master of Education degree and Superintendent Certification from Stephen F. Austin State University. He received his Ph.D. in K-16 Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Texas-Arlington.
